Mavins vs YBNL Beef Time?
Kingsley Momoh - Lagos
Going by the disgraceful act of the boss of YBNL Nation, Olamide, the Headies award for the next rated music act which is reputed to come with a car gift, will continue to be the talk of the town for sometime to come.
Going by the disgraceful act of the boss of YBNL Nation, Olamide, the Headies award for the next rated music act which is reputed to come with a car gift, will continue to be the talk of the town for sometime to come.
At the Headies which held this morning in Lagos, Mavin Records Reekado Banks was announced as the winner of the award which actually got the emotional side of Reekado out. In his acceptance speech, he had acknowledged the support of other acts particularly his co-nominee from YBNL Nation, Lil Kesh.
Banks had noted that Lil Kesh had made him feel like he (Banks) wasn't talented. A comment some found awkward (maybe Reekado has low self esteem).
Much later during the event, YBNL's
Adekunle Gold won the award for the “Best Alternative Song” which obviously attracted the whole of YBNL
crew including the boss, Olamide. During Adekunle's acceptance speech, he
acknowledged Olamide and Lil Kesh prostrated to Olamide who spoted an all green
Buba and Sokoto. When Olamide had a chance at the mic, he showed his fury for
the loss of his ward, Lil Kesh whom he told the audience, had back to back hit
songs in 2015.
Olamide went further to cursing and using
unprintable words on stage which was also to a live TV audience of Hip
TV on DSTV and GOTV. After his speech, Olamide dropped the mic which landed badly on the floor and poured the content of his red disposable cup before leaving the stage.
However, when Don Jazzy came up to receive
a special recognition award presented to him by Chief Tony Okoroji, he noted that he
detests award and he came to the show with his support to his children ( Mavin crew nominees) who have
all been nominated in various categories. It was during the acceptance speech
that Don Jazzy said "Egbon Olamide, if you wan the car, you can come and collect it". A statement which obviously sent a blow to the YBNL camp. This has caused a lot of controversy as Olamide had gone on twitter to vent his rage on Don Jazzy on the basis that he didn't mention anybody's name when he (Olamide) ranted.
The near future will be unpleasant as it seems the battle has been drawn between the bosses and the fans are pitching camps. However, this issue is so simple that it can be trashed in no time if maturity is played both bosses.
