Gospel Music: Mozaik Says Gospel Acts Are Ministers First Before Anything Else

Making money isn’t the priority of gospel music - Mozaik

Kingsley Momoh - Lagos

Fast rising gospel act, Moses Anwase popularly referred to as Mozaik is a minister with a difference. Having started as a hip hop artiste, he has a very wide knowledge of what good music is and shouldn’t be.

His latest effort titled “I hail you” speaks volume of the uncommon delivery of gospel music by a Nigerian. Mozaik is not just a singer; he is also a song writer whose works are divinely inspired. In this interview with Kingsley Momoh, he touched on various areas pertaining to his music career.

Who is Mozaik?
Mozaik is a God fearing man, a talented singer, very unique in his style of music and a minister of the gospel.

Gospel music concept
Gospel music is sacred music, it’s a kind of music that glorifies God, while most of the other genre of music aren’t in that direction; as most of them are geared towards just entertainment.

I was a secular artiste before God called me into the gospel ministry. what I really want to achieve is to take the gospel to the street, spread the good news to the unbelievers and win their hearts for Christ. It’s not basically about making money from it.

Heaven and hell are real and the bible instructs us to go into the world and preach the gospel of Christ. Some are preaching as pastors, prophets, evangelists, apostles and we are preaching through our songs. Thus, if as a gospel musician people are not been saved through your ministrations/music then you haven't achieved anything. I gave my life to Jesus and that was my best decision I ever made in my whole life.

Commercially is gospel music viable?
Yes it is, gospel music is here to stay and it is growing faster and will soon take over the whole world.

Admired Gospel Acts
Hmm, I love Tim Godfrey, I love his creativity and I also love Nathaniel Bassey and Frank Edwards, I love Bassey for his spirituality and Frank for his hard work.

Writing Songs
A lot of things drive me; I don't have one particular thing. Most times when I listen to sermons I get songs from there. I also get songs during prayer sessions. Sometimes in the course of praying in my quiet time I get lost in the spirit and I break into new songs. Another time I get new songs is when I listen to beats, reading the bible and when reading the bible.

What does anyone need to become a gospel act?
If you are called to preach the gospel then its fine to go into music but it is important to note that people have their different callings.

Is gospel music on the rise as a result of high rate of unemployment?
The gospel music industry is growing high today and it’s a very good thing, many years back people didn’t care about gospel music but now a whole lot of people listen to Nathaniel Bassey, Frank Edwards, Eben, Tim Godfrey, Sinach, Mozaik and whole lot of others and they enjoy these artistes very well.
The devil is recruiting a lot of people in the world today, a lot of things happening on social media, pornography on the rise, same sex marriages and some are preaching against the word of God. And it is in the same vein that God is recruiting men to work for Him, so it’s not beause of unemployment, gospel music is not for business, but for touching, preaching and saving lives.

Challenges gospel artistes face
There are a lot of challenges when it comes to music. One of it is Promotion. It’s so difficult to get the relevant acceptance via the broadcast media in Nigeria. To promote songs is a very difficult task because a lot of money is usually required for that to happen. Another challenge is that of fraudulent promoters, consultants who are simply out to dupe unsuspecting music acts.
Despite personally facing the challenges, I have become more resolute to keep pushing because when I remember God's promises, I get charged. He that sent me never sleeps nor slumber.
I am presently not signed and it is not easy doing everything on your own.

How would you describe the response to your music?.
The response to my music is so encouraging. Many people love my songs and have described my music to be very unique and different from other artistes. Everywhere I minister, the response from the congregation is always amazing. People are always blessed and happy when they hear me sing. On social media a lot of people send in comments about my music and I currently have a lot of downloads on music sites.

What are your most recent works and what should your fans expect from you?
I dropped a single titled I HAIL YOU, you can check google and download on naijapals, mynotjusok.com etc. It’s a unique praise jam you can't afford to miss especially for those that love praising God. I also have other songs waiting to drop soonest .
I have more songs also which will make up my forth coming album.
