SOCIAL MEDIA TREND: The Pains Ajegunle Ikorodu Residents Face Annually

Itoro Jimmy

With a twist in the reality of the subtle destruction of the ecosystem, various communities in the world are now facing various levels of the challenges of environmental degradation. Most of the victims, as it were are usually not the perpetrators of the environmental evil in the first place.

A community in Lagos which is situated along the popular Ikorodu Road called Ajegunle is one of the many communities that annually suffers from the many the deliberate actions (or sometimes not deliberate) of others to the detriment of hundreds and thousands of others.

Many stories have been told of the origin of the annual floods. The most authentic is that the Ogun River Dam is the cause of the annual disaster. The untold attendant hardship is something that reminds one of how it must have been when the globe was not heavily technologically driven as it is today. It is obvious that most of these challenges are things that could easily be prevented but the careless nature of many societies has resulted in the suffering, death, or permanent punishment of persons whose only sin is the fact that they were unfortunate to live where they do.

The pictures tell the story of the situation but the question remains; how long are they going to continue to live in this life of annual flooding without respite. The governments of Ogun state, Lagos state, and the federal government must come to the aid of these hapless Nigerians to save them from going extinct.
