Kingsley Momoh: Guguru FM's CEO Clocks 40 in Style

It was a day of joy for Kingsley Momoh, the award winning CEO of Guguru FM on Saturday 5th November as he was treated to a surprise birthday party planned by his close family members led by his wife Gbemisola, his younger brother and Principal photographer at Stanley Momoh Visuals and his wife Hope.

The event held at his home in Lagos with friends of always smiling Kingsley from primary, secondary schools through the university in attendance. The self acclaimed Maxtablaxta who claims to see beyond the ordinary seemingly did not see this one coming as he broke into tears when he entered his apartment to see that his sitting room has turned into an event hall of sort with friends and family members gaily dressed to celebrate him.

Describing the event to our correspondent, TV producer and friend of Kingsley, Oluwatosin Ogunade popularly known as Tcriown said that the attendance  overwhelmed her because Gbemi told her she wanted just a few friends. But when Tcrown made calls to their mutual friends, almost everybody she told about the surprise birthday came. Hence the wonderful attendance which include sports journalist Femi Farawe, Ronke the wife of TVC correspondent Ayo Ozugbakun, CEO Aristo Entertainment, Lanre Johnson, veretan journalist FEmi Afolayan of Eko FM, award winning movie critic and journalist Shaibu Husseini who is the chairman of the college of screeners and a member of the jury board of the Africa movie Academy awards (AMAA awards).

Others are veteran journalist Victoria Maurice,  Popular city caterer Ibironke Dadeowo, International business woman Sola Otubu, Mr Afeez Shiyanbola MD Shiyabola Prints Lagos and Dubai.

Indeed, with a gang of greats in various terrains celebrating his big day with him, Kingsley Momoh was filled with emotions. He recalled that he has never planned a speech to be read on his birthday although he has planned that of the his inauguration as the president on of Nigeria, minister of information and other positions he obviously hopes to attain.

Another guest at the event, Mr. Badejo Gbolahan, CEO of Nextdoor designs said to our correspondent that Kingsley Momoh is a man who is very friendly and brings joy to his environment at all times. Furthermore the clothier said that Kingsley was a colleague at Baptist Academy Obanikoro.

His friend from childhood and war veteran, Major Olaniyi Osoba described Kingsley as his mentor from childhood. He said that Kingsley was someone he always watched to know the right moves to take.

Kingsley whose career in journalism has seen him take on various positions in the electronic and print media, is the lead journalist at fast rising Guguru FM. Among other roles, he has worked as television producer, presenter, news editor and correspondent covering major events across the country.  He recalls the presidential inauguration of President Jonathan in 2011 as one of the most memorable events he covered. He said he was bundled from the venue of the event (Eagle square) mid way into the event by security officials because his press tag was not with him. Furthermore, the security officials threatened to shoot him if he was found around the square later. With phone network jammed around the city in Abuja, he said that he had to trek a long distance to get an area he could get a cab to the Abuja office of his organization.

The Jattu born media guru noted that it was a scary moment because security officials could be over zealous in such situations. He also remembered a time the plane he was on nearly temporarily went out of control while in flight and he said the story would have been a plane crash but GOD saved him and the other passengers. 

Kingsley who grew up in a police barracks in Pedro, Palmgrove area of Lagos has also worked as the editor of the Bisi Olatilo Show (BOS) Magazine, Castles Lifestye Magazine, Glintstone Magazine and others. He said that the zeal to go into the media world was born in his early days at the police barracks. He said while in secondary school at Baptist Academy Obanikoro, he had various publications on exercise book which attracted readers which cut across the various classes including seniors. His love for writing has seen him write poems, articles and prose on various platforms. He became a published poet when his poem titled "What's In A Kiss" was published in an anthology titled "No More Silent Cries" with other writers coming from the United States of America and Argentina led by Floyd Boykin junior of Spoken Vizions USA. He has written many books but intends publishing 2 sometime in 2017.

Kingsley apart from journalism is also an actor and has featured in some movies and TV productions like popular yoruba soap, Kilanta. His role in the soap - Peter Gas endeared him to many. He is also a public relations consultant and an associate of the Nigerian institute of public relations.

He anchors events like wedding receptions, conferences, seminars and much more. He describes event anchoring as the fulfilment of all righteousness because he finds joy talking to people and making things work to the joy of the guests and event organizers/celebrants. He describes his former boss, veteran broadcaster, Bisi Olatilo as a big inspiration in the business of anchoring events.

In 2011 he received an award of Safety Advocate of Nigeria from from Harriman Oyofoh as a reporter and in 2016 he was recognised for his contribution to entertainment in Nigeria via his exploits in journalism and training of young Nigerians in various fields by Students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state.

He is a teacher in the junior church of the Redeemed christian church of GOD and a member of 411 Heights, a body of top movie producers, actors and media practitioners.

Kingsley says his hope for Nigeria is that of a country any Nigerian would be proud to want to live in, work in and sow in. right now, that is far from what he sees.
