Sudanese Court Upturns Sentenced Christian Woman

An appeal court in Sudan has upturned and cancelled the death sentence and 100 lashes of cane sentence placed on Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman whom married a christian, daniel Wani and denounced Islam for Christianity against the wish of her muslim family.

Sudan’s official state news agency (SUNA News Agency) confirmed on Monday that the ordered 27 years old Meriam Ibrahim will be freed.
“The appeal court ordered the release of Meriam Yahya and the cancelation of the (previous) court ruling”, the agency stated.
She was sentenced to death under Sharia law for apostasy in May after refusing to renounce Christianity. Despite being pregant at the time of her arrest, Mrs ibrahim put to bed in prison with shackles on her feet sdue to her insistence to be a christian within a four-day ultimatum she received at the court. The execution order was delayed for 2 years for her to nurse her baby. Meriam had been imprisoned with her 20-month-old son. Her husband, Daniel Wani, said he was looking forward to seeing her and leave Sudan as soon as possible.
